Who We Are

Maximum Effort Barbell Club is a USAW Affiliated Olympic-style Weightlifting Team located in the heart of Hodgenville, KY. Our home is located in LaRue County's first and only CrossFit gym - Abe City CrossFit. 


Our training methodology and expertise is geared towards increasing strength and proficiency in the snatch and the clean & jerk lifts, associated with the sport of weightlifting. This is accomplished through practice of those lifts themselves in concert with a variety of supplemental and assistance exercises.

At Maximum Effort, we strive for excellence. We have produced State Champions, National Competitors, Pan Am qualifiers. We also specialize in sports strength & conditioning, and performance enhancement at all levels of sports. Our mission is to make sure our athletes are stronger and more explosive come game day.

This is training that is customized and tailored to each athlete's goals. Options available are:

- 1 monthly programming

- 3 months

- 6 months

-12 months

For athletes that cannot train in-house, we offer remote training, with programming being sent out every Sunday, along with weekly feedback from our coaches.

Individualized Programming

For athletes that wish to come in and have a Coach check technique, or just wanna come in and work with a Coach, we offer 1-2 hour classes, and must be made by appointment. 


(Abe City CrossFit also runs a CrossFit Weightlifting class every Thursday from 5:30 - 6:30pm, if you're interested in joining that class. Please contact Abe City for additional information.)

With over 15 years' experience coaching Olympic Weightlifting, Nick has coached State Champions, record-holders, National competitors, and Pan Am qualifiers. Nick is also an active competitive Masters weightlifter. He holds the following credentials:

- USA Weightlifting, Level 2

- Strength and Conditioning, Coach

- Performance Enhancement, Coach

- CrossFit Level 2 Coach

Brandy is a Kentucky State Weightlifting Champion, and placed 6th overall at USA Nationals in Olympic Weightlifting as a Master. She has coached numerous weightlifters, as well as trained cadets to help them pass their law-enforcement Academy fitness exam.

Nancy is a dual athlete who competes at both Olympic Weightlifting and CrossFit. Nancy represents both Maximum Effort Barbell Club and Abe City CrossFit.
